What this book actually is
Christmas Shopaholic is the ninth book in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series, published in 2019. Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) has moved back from the States to the village of Letherby, works in the gift shop at her friend Suze’s stately home, and takes on the family Christmas, which does not go to plan.
Earlier books in the series include Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Ties the Knot.
The case for reading it
There is little structural reason to prefer print: no documents, maps or special layout were reported for this book. Longtime fans who already hear their own Becky in their heads may prefer to keep it that way. The US paperback runs to 464 pages.
The case for listening to it
Becky narrates her own disasters, and first-person comedy depends on timing. Nathalie Buscombe reads it solo; one listener praises how she tells the characters apart, and another misses the earlier narrator.
The recording runs 12 hours 4 minutes, about 8 hours at 1.5x.
