What this book actually is

Stitched is Eli McCann’s first novel. Betty Lou Dearden has belonged to the Ogden Quilters Association for over twenty years, and when the country’s biggest quilting competition comes to Utah, the group takes in two young gay men to beat a longtime rival. Kirkus calls it “Simply charming”.

It is told in four parts, The Recruitment, The Quilt, The Competition and The Return, across one year of quilt-making in 2017 and 2018. The Salt Lake Tribune reported in September 2026 that it had reached the New York Times paperback trade fiction list.

The case for reading it

Print suits readers who like to keep a large cast straight: reviews name ten to fourteen characters, and one calls it “too many characters” (Dear Author). No source says the names are easy to confuse, so this does not count in the score.

No UK print edition was found on 27 October 2026, so a paper copy in the UK means the US paperback.

The case for listening to it

Eli McCann reads his own novel, and Audible US listeners rate the performance 4.5 from 212 ratings. The story runs in order across one year. No award or named critic has praised the reading, so it does not count in the score.

At 7 hours 42 minutes, it is about 5 hours 8 minutes at 1.5x.

The audiobook in detail

Torrey House Press publishes the unabridged recording, read by the author, at 7 hours 42 minutes on Audible UK and US, released on 11 September 2026. The publisher’s own page does not list the audiobook.

It had a performance rating of 4.5 from 212 ratings on Audible US on 27 October 2026. Audible UK showed 4.5 from only 4 ratings.
