The verdict
The same thirteen checks for every bookSix checks point to listening, such as a full cast or produced audio, the author reading their own memoir, or one narrator for a single viewpoint. Seven point to reading, such as jumping timelines, three or more viewpoints, or a story that depends on images or layout. Each check has a weight, and the weighted total sets the verdict. Verdicts are never paid for. The percentage rises with the gap between the two sides and with how much evidence there is, so a couple of small checks can’t make a book clear cut on their own: 50 to 64 is a close call, 65 to 79 is leaning, 80 to 94 is clear, and 95 or more is clear cut. Why we reached this verdict

Every book on this site is checked against the same thirteen questions. They are based on research into what most people find easier to follow in each format, not on whether the book is any good.

How the score adds up
Listening 10 points, reading 0

The six-narrator cast gives listening 10 points, and nothing scores for reading. That puts it at 70%, leaning to audio. A clear-cut verdict needs more than 10 points on one side.

Every book gets the same thirteen checks, set in advance. Verdicts are never paid for or influenced by affiliate links. Last edited 5 November 2026, and rechecked every year as editions and narrators change. Read the checks in full · Is listening the same as reading? See what the research says.

What this book actually is

A Married Little Christmas is a collection of three linked Christmas romance novellas by Abby Jimenez. In “Sweater Weather”, Anna’s Christmas dinner goes wrong when her high school ex turns up and they fake-date to save face. In “Stealing Christmas”, Matty loses a bet and spends a day in a diner dressed as a zombie Santa. In “Marry Little Christmas”, Lauren tries to talk her best friend out of marrying after three days.

The stories are linked by place and recurring characters, but it is not a sequel and nothing we found ties it to Jimenez’s earlier novels. Bookishelf calls it closed door, with swearing and sex jokes, and notes past breast cancer, a death from cystic fibrosis in the backstory and a pet taken by an abusive ex.

The case for reading it

The case for print is the book as a gift. The UK Piatkus hardback has sprayed edges and full-page illustrations throughout, and the US deluxe edition adds colour endpapers and recipes. If you want the object, buy print.

For the stories themselves there’s little to gain, since the audiobook comes with a PDF of the same recipes and illustrations.

The case for listening to it

Each novella has its own pair of narrators, named by the publisher: Anthony Palmini and Patti Murin, Grayson Owens and Mollie Stark, then Christine Lakin and Zachary Webber. Every couple gets their own voices, which suits light romances built around two people.

The audiobook adds a Q&A with Abby Jimenez, her editor and her daughter that isn’t in print, and at 6 hours 51 minutes, it’s an easy couple of evenings.
